Join thread in celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 1-7, 2023. Every year, thread joins the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to celebrate our young children, their families, and the teachers that impact their lives. The Week of the Young Child is a time to plan how we—as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation—will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
The week of April 1-7, 2023 was declared The Week of the Young Child by Governor Mike Dunleavy. Now all of Alaska can shine a spotlight on child care, child care advocacy, children, and family engagement by celebrating every day this week. Children learn in various ways. Get creative this week and plan activities around the fun-filled themed days.
April 3: Music Monday
Through music, children can develop math, language, and literacy skills—all while having fun and being active!
April 4: Tasty Tuesday
Cooking develops many skills, including math and science, while encouraging healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom.
April 5: Work Together Wednesday
When children work/build together, they explore new concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills.
April 6: Artsy Thursday
Children develop creativity, social, and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects that allow them to make choices and use their imaginations.
April 7: Family Friday
Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners. Family Friday recognizes that family members are a young child’s first and most important teachers.
