Action Alert: House Finance Committee Public Testimony Starts March 21 for FY24 Operating Budget

March 21, 2023

Ask the House Finance Committee to Increase Child Care Investment in the Proposed FY24 Operating Budget.

In a series of meetings this week, the House Finance Committee will be hearing public testimony on the State of Alaska FY24 House Operating Budget (HB39).

Now is the time for child care providers, early educators and families to testify and ask the House Finance Committee to increase state investment in early learning and child care. As federal relief funding for child care sunsets, it’s critical that child care programs can keep their doors open, and early educators stay in the field. Increased state investment is needed.

Talking Points
Please consider these talking points for your testimony or email:

  • Thank the House Finance Committee for their support of the proposed FY24 operating budget which includes early childhood resources and services such as infant learning, early literacy, Pre-K, and other family supports. These critical resources play a vital role in our children’s future!
  • Federal relief funding has helped child care to keep its doors open, but it is soon sunsetting. Ask the House Finance Committee to increase state investment in child care to soften the impact of expiring federal relief funding and ensure child care can continue to keep its doors open serving Alaska’s families and young children.
  • Share your stories! Explain how an increased investment will help your child care program, early educator(s), and/or family.
Thank you for testifying and letting our leaders know how vital child care is to families — and Alaska.
