Next Tuesday, August 16th<\/sup>\u00a0is the primary election.\u00a0 Now is the time to finalize your voting plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voting Reminders! <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot<\/strong>, follow the directions carefully. Be sure to get a witness\u2019s signature and return your ballot by election day! Alaska Division of Elections has a helpful video<\/a> that answers common questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you plan to vote during early voting<\/strong> from August 1-15, take a moment to confirm that early voting is available near you. Early voting locations can be found here<\/a>.

And finally, if you’re going to vote on election day<\/strong>, double-check your polling location here<\/a>. Several locations changed due to redistricting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Election Activities for Children <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While you\u2019re finalizing your voting plans, consider how you can include your children or classroom in your election activities.\u00a0Research<\/a>\u00a0has shown that talking about politics and elections with children increases the likelihood they will vote as adults.\u00a0Whether you need activities for your classroom or your living room, here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. Talk About Voting<\/strong>
Talk to your children about the election and what issues are influencing your voting decisions. And, whether you vote in person or by mail, let them watch you fill out the ballot and discuss the process together.

2. Read About Elections<\/strong>
Reading is a great way to help children connect with real-life events. Here\u2019s a\u00a0list of books<\/a>\u00a0about elections and voting for ages 0-10.

3. Hold a Mock Election<\/strong>
Put the voting process into practice by holding your own family or classroom election. First, decide what you\u2019ll vote for – maybe the snack for the day or the family activity for the upcoming weekend. Then create ballots and hold your election! Older kids may want to create campaign posters or make speeches about their favorite \u201ccandidate.\u201d\u00a0And if you want to hold a \u201cranked choice voting\u201d election Alaska Children\u2019s Trust has a\u00a0ballot\u00a0<\/a>ready for you to use!
