It’s the Week of the Young Child™ and thread has been celebrating early education, young children, their families, and their teachers all week.

Today is Family Friday. Family members are a child’s first and most important teachers!

This year thread is celebrating Family Friday by sharing the stories of three real Alaskan families. thread is delighted to debut its new Family Stories page featuring these families’ stories about child care and resilience.

We want to hear your family’s story, too. Telling these personal stories is how we can make issues affecting young children in Alaska come to life for policy makers and community leaders.

Visit our Family Stories page and share your family’s story of resilience, child care, and moments of joy during the past year.

If you share your story before Wednesday, April 21, you could be selected to receive one of five family activity kits!

Telling stories also helps young children learn. Storytelling builds language and literacy skills and can help young children know what to expect when doing something new, like going to the dentist for the first time. Stories have even helped children cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Explore some of these articles and activities from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to help you celebrate.

For the Classroom
