When children build together with each other and adults, they explore math and science<br \/>\n    concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how to work with others to accomplish something is an important skill. As adults, we use it all the time in the workplace. In fact, taking turns,<br \/>\n    finding solutions, giving and receiving feedback, and getting along with others are all important skills required for a strong workforce. <\/p>\n<p>The foundation for all these skills is built in early childhood, starting at birth. In early childhood education programs throughout Alaska, young children<br \/>\n    and teachers work closely together every day. These nurturing relationships are at the heart of learning for young children. Now that many programs<br \/>\n    are temporarily closed due to COVID-19, children may be missing their teachers and their peers. Virtual communication platforms such as Skype and Zoom<br \/>\n    offer great ways to stay in touch.<\/p>\n<p>At home, work with your child to build something today, whether it\u2019s a block tower or a pillow fort. You can use all kinds of creative materials: sticks<br \/>\n    from the yard, pans from the kitchen, or empty toilet paper rolls. Ask questions to inspire critical thinking, such as \u201cWhat do you think will happen<br \/>\n    if we put this here?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What did you build together today?
