In preparation for its 10th annual Book Party in the Park, thread is hoping to meet its goal of receiving 10,000 donated children’s books before July 31. All of which will be given away at this year’s event on August 11th at the Mountain View Garden Art Park in Anchorage.

A decade ago thread hosted the first Book Party in the Park event to promote family connection and healthy child development through early literacy experiences. Over time the event has grown exponentially. Last year, over 1,000 people showed up for this free community event, and thousands of books were given to local families.

“thread’s Book Party in the Park provides a great opportunity for families to connect and discover the joy of reading together,” said Stephanie Berglund, CEO of thread. “Reading books and sharing stories is a great experience for families to have together.”

The Anchorage community has already donated thousands of children’s books so far, but many more books are needed to reach our goal of 10,000. Donations of children’s books (for all age groups) are being accepted now through July 31 at all Anchorage Fred Meyer locations and thread’s office at 3350 Commercial Drive, Suite 203.

“Reading to children is a critical component of healthy brain development, and it’s a great opportunity to connect with your children and have quality time,” said Senator Wielechowski (D-Anchorage), who has partnered with thread over the past several years on the event.

The Book Party includes free books for all children attending the event, story time with special guests, games, crafts, live music, temporary tattoos, snacks, and much more. The Book Party in the Park is a fun way for children and families to get excited about books and reading as well as a great way to promote early learning.

Each year, business partners like ConocoPhillips Alaska, Title Wave Books, BP, and Anchorage Fred Meyer Stores generously support the Book Party in the Park and make this free community event possible.

Book Party in the Park

4:00 – 7:00 pm on August 11, 2016

Mountain View Garden Art Park

3350 Commercial Drive, Anchorage, AK

For more information, contact Hayley Anderson at 907.265.3111.

["post-37425","thread-blog","type-thread-blog","status-publish","hentry

Event Details:
