Because many wildfires are cause by human activity, take action to stay safe and prevent dangerous fires.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCampfires and warming fires less than 3 feet in diameter do not need burn permits, but you are ultimately responsible for your fire. Follow these tips to stay safe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tUse existing campfire sites if possible. Campfires and outdoor fireplaces should be at least 15 feet from any structure.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tClear away brush, twigs, pine needs, or overhead branches that could catch fire.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tNever leave a fire unattended.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tKeep water nearby.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tCompletely extinguish your fire by dousing it with large amounts of water until it is cool to the touch. Dig up all material down to the permafrost or mineral soil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\tFor fires larger than campfires, you must <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.alaska.gov\/burn\/fireareas\">apply for a burn permit and check for burn bans<\/a> in your area.
