There are several things you can do to keep children safe.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t <\/div>\n<div>\n\tFirst, be especially alert and slow down when driving in residential neighborhoods and school zones. Pedestrian and bike traffic has picked up since school started, so watch carefully for bikers, walkers, or runners who may be distracted or step into the street unexpectedly.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t <\/div>\n<div>\n\tTeach children about the importance of using crosswalks and looking left-right-left before crossing. Continue to accompany your child on walks outside until they are at least 10 years old, when they first begin to develop the ability to judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars.<\/div>\n<div>\n\tAlways use a sidewalk. Reflective tape can be attached to coats, backpacks, shoes, hats, and other items to make children more visible to drivers.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t <\/div>\n<div>\n\tBring a flashlight or wear a headlamp to ensure your path is well lit.
