But now is the perfect time to start getting your preschooler ready for kindergarten. <\/p>\n<p>You may not think about preparing your child for the transition to kindergarten until a month or two before class begins, but experts say that successful<br \/>\n    transitioning is a process that should begin the year before. <\/p>\n<p>Whether your child is in preschool, child care, or at home, the evolution from your current situation to kindergarten can be both an exciting and busy<br \/>\n    time. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting Ready <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>These events and resources can guide you through the process. <\/p>\n<p>In Anchorage <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January 26: Parents and kids can visit the Loussac Library at 11 am for the Countdown to Kindergarten event. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asdk12.org\/Page\/7957\">More info<\/a><u>\u00a0<\/u>        <\/li>\n<li>February: The Anchorage School District hosts Visit Our School Month throughout the month and has more tips for getting ready. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asdk12.org\/visit\">More info<\/a>        <\/li>\n<li>February 21: Register now for <strong>thread\u2019s<\/strong> next ParentTALK, focusing on the school programs available in the Anchorage School District.<br \/>\n        It\u2019s free! <a href=\"\/thread\/families\/thread-community-events\/20190221-parent-talk-february-2019\">More info<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In Fairbanks<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>North Star Borough School District offers these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.k12northstar.org\/kindergarten\">kindergarten enrollment tips<\/a> for parents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In Juneau<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>March 21: Families can attend the Early Learning Fair from 4-6 pm at Mendenhall Valley Public Library to register your child for kindergarten as well<br \/>\n        as get free immunizations as well as hearing and vision screenings. <\/li>\n<li>Other resources, forms, and class schedules are available for parents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauschools.org\/parents-61bbc53f\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many schools host tours or kindergarten open houses in the spring. Check with your local school district for times and dates.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Before School Starts<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>As the time gets closer, the National Association for the Education of Young Children suggests additional ways to prepare your child for kindergarten.<br \/>\n    Here are a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit the school and meet the teacher. If there is a visiting day to meet your child\u2019s teacher and see the classroom before school starts, make sure<br \/>\n        to participate.<\/li>\n<li>Start your school routine early. To reduce stress and get used to new routines, adjust new bedtimes or wake up times a few weeks before school begins.\n        <\/li>\n<li>Get your paperwork done.
