2020 was an extremely difficult year for the child care system with COVID-19 intensifying strains on child care providers and families. Child Care Aware® of America (CCAoA) recently reported that early childhood educators were leaving the sector prior to the pandemic. When early childhood education programs had to close, or experienced massive drops in attendance due to COVID-19, their ability to stay in business was further threatened.

CCOA recently launched a new data center and state fact sheets that focus on child care affordability and accessibility by state.

CCAoA’s Alaska Fact Sheet is now available and includes responses to early childhood educator survey questions that gauged the effects of COVID-19 on Alaska’s child care system.

This year, Alaska’s data is in two different formats.
