Planting the SEED of Success: Planning a Safe Healthy Learning Environment

Planning a safe and healthy learning environment involves more than cleaning with bleach spray and arranging the furniture. This training will cover an early educators’ responsibility as mandated reporters when suspicions of child abuse and neglect occur, how to create a safe sleep environment to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and strategies to share with families to care for a crying child to prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). Proper infection control practices for hand washing and sanitizing will also be introduced, as well as tips for setting up the care environment and selecting materials.

• The 10 hours of training includes 6 contact hours and 4 hours from homework

This training meets State of Alaska Child Care Licensing requirements for early educators caring for infants and toddlers who must complete SIDS/SBS training every two years.

Completion of all four sessions for Entry level 1 is equivalent to completing Level 3 on the SEED Career Ladder. Early educators who have additional education not related to the early childhood field may elect to complete these four entry level sessions to be recognized at a higher level on the SEED Career Ladder.
