Brain Development and Early Literacy in the Very Young Child

Parents, caregivers, and teachers can grow early literacy skills in children starting as early as the day they are born. Early literacy skills lead the way for fluency and comprehension in reading, an essential skill for school success. Attendees to this session will learn what early literacy is and how early literacy skills are shaped by a child’s brain development, beginning from birth. Attendees will understand the recommended strategies for cultivating early literacy skills. Also highlighted will be the positive impact of shared reading time with children from birth to age 3 and examples of how to enhance the reading experience. Attendees will also learn how to borrow free, statewide resources from the Ready to Read Resource Center.

This presentation is facilitated in Partnership with the Alaska State Library, Ready to Read Resource Center.

No training dates are currently scheduled.
