This workshop is the final installment of a four-part series looking at how gender is socially constructed in our culture as well in our classrooms, how that affects our teaching and the teaching experiences of our students. Using research, including studies conducted by the presenter, participants will begin to learn how gender identity and gender expression forn in young children. Understanding that questions around gender often come up impromptu during the day with children we will practice how to have conversations with young children in our classrooms around gender. We will also practice how-to advocate for children when their gender expression is made fun of or "policed" by other students. We will review story books to use with young children to explore gender identity and create short picture books or stories with puppets of own to help children explore differing gender identities and break down gender stereotypes
