Alaska's children and early educators benefit from Pick.Click.Give donations

In 2011,  thread, Alaska's Child Care Resource and Referral Agency received $2400 in individual donations through the Pick.Click.Give program. thread has seen an increase in Pick.Click.Give donations each year in support of quality early care and education in Alaska. Pick.Click.Give. allows Alaskans to make charitable contributions to one or more of over 400 eligible nonprofit organizations when they file online for the annual dividend.

"Thank you to our donors who support thread through Pick.Click.Give," says Stephanie Berglund, thread's CEO. "This support helps us provide more services to children and families and early educators across the state and allows us to put resources to new and priority programs."

thread provides individualized child care referrals to over 7,000 families across the state and works with 900 families and early educators offering services to children with special needs. thread also serves over 2,300 early educators through training and on-site assistance.

"The support through Pick.Click.Give helps us continue to promote new training opportunities through distance learning as well as parent activities and programs in different communities we serve," says Berglund. "We are excited to see Pick.Click.Give grow as a popular way for Alaskans to support causes that are important to them."

Project leaders behind Pick. Click. Give. hope to make 2012 the biggest year yet for Alaska nonprofits in the program.

For 2012, Pick. Click. Give. program managers set an aggressive goal of raising at least $2 million for Alaska nonprofits.  With the January 1 opening of the filing period for Permanent Fund Dividends, a statewide Pick. Click. Give. public awareness campaign is now in full swing. In two short years, Pick.Click.Give has helped generate nearly $1.5 million for Alaska causes.

The program was created by the Alaska State Legislature in 2008 and allows Alaskans filing for their PFD online to donate all or part of it to the campuses of the University of Alaska, community foundations, and eligible charitable and educational organizations. After a three-year pilot project, Pick. Click. Give. is now a permanent part of the PFD program. Rasmuson Foundation and several other funding partners committed to an additional five-year marketing effort to make sure Pick. Click. Give. is firmly established and widely known among Alaskans.

Alaskans filing for the dividend online will see the Pick.Click.Give option. thread is listed as "thread, Alaska's early care and education connection."

"Pick.Click.Give works because it is a safe and secure way for Alaskans to make donations to their favoriate charities," says Berglund.
