Keeping Children Safe: SIDS/SBS and Child Abuse
Childcare providers are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect in the State of Alaska. This training will help you to understand your responsibilities as a mandated reporter, the signs of abuse and neglect, and how to make a report. You will also learn how to work with families to prevent child abuse and neglect with the children in your care. Also, during this session, participants will learn how to create a safe sleep environment to reduce the risk of sleep related deaths, as well as, identify startling statistics on Shaken Baby Syndrome and how to prevent and reduce the number of SBS victims.
Staff caring for infants & toddlers in state licensed child care programs are required to have training in SIDS and SBS at least every 2 years. Staff caring for infants & toddlers within the Municipality of Anchorage are required to have this training annually.
