Pre-Conference Seminar: Leadership Matters, What Makes Us Stay? Juneau
Join us to discuss, explore, and share why people stay in early care and education. You will be sure to leave with some new ideas and techniques that encourage longevity. A Luncheon will be provided. Licensed child care providers may be eligible for a Quality Initiative mini grant for participating. Licensed child care providers outside of Juneau will be eligible for a travel grant to attend this workshop and the AEYC Conference following. To apply for the Leadership Matters Quality Initiative, contact Christa Womack at (907) 789-1235. Participants will receive 4 hours in the CDA content areas of Program Management and Professionalism. Guest Speaker: Gara Bridwell
Gara teaches early childhood courses at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is past president of Alaska AEYC, and has worn many “hats” in early childhood including child care teacher, center director, and Head Start Director. Gara also served as Executive Director of Play N Learn, one of the largest child care programs in Alaska at the time, and assisted in the start-up of the Gold Creek Child Development Center in Juneau. Gara wrote her thesis on the topic of the intrinsic and external factors that contribute to the retention of early educators, with specific recommendations to encourage longevity and reduce turnover.
