Help Support Quality Early Education
thread works with and supports thousands of Alaska’s families and early educators by providing resources like teaching materials and books, family friendly events and high quality training for early educators. We invite you to join us in supporting quality early care and education for Alaska’s children.
It's so easy.
Child Care Referral Services
thread provides referrals to child care programs only, we do not provide recommendations. Parents are encouraged to visit and interview providers before making a final decision about their child care. Please see a sample plan and simple steps you can follow in your search for child care in the "plan for child care search." Family services are provided free of charge, including referrals, library use, and consumer information.
After using this service, please tell us what you thought by taking a short survey.
How thread's referral service works
thread’s Family Services department helps families find child care by conducting an individualized search from our child care database which includes types of programs such as family child care homes, centers, preschool programs, Head Start programs and more. Our database includes early care and education programs and settings located throughout Alaska.
We search by family’s specific needs including the child’s age, location, desired program type, transportation options, and other factors important to your family. We can also answer many important questions about the child care programs in our database such as vacancies, fees, policies, caregiver experience, and types of activities available.
Along with referrals, we highly recommend downloading the Quality Care Booklet which includes information on quality care tips and tools for finding a provider that best fits your families' needs. We also have provided a sample plan for finding quality child care and some simple steps you can follow to help you find the best child care fit for your family.
