Quality Initiatives (QI)

thread's Quality Initiatives support your professional development and program quality improvement around a specific early education topic.

All Quality Initiatives include training, goal setting with the development of a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), consultation to support the implementation of the QIP and a financial stipend of up to $1,000 between funding and/or additional materials.

Program Quality Initiatives

  • New Provider

    This QI assists approved providers or providers who have been licensed for less than a year to become familiar with basic best practices. The focus of this initiative is on programmatic operations, business practices and/or setting up classroom environments.

  • Let’s Move Child Care

This QI assists programs to reduce childhood obesity through assisting children to build healthy habits. This QI places an emphasis on improving practices involving nutrition and physical activity which align with the Let’s Move! Child Care national initiative. More information and resources on LMCC can be found at: https://healthykidshealthyfuture.org/. Early care and education programs who have previously participated in an Obesity Prevention or Let’s Move Child Care (LMCC) QI are not eligible to apply.  

  • Quality Environments in Northern/Interior Alaska

This QI is available in the Northern/Interior Region. The focus of this initiative is to support programs in creating meaningful learning opportunities for young children through play and hands-on experiences.


  • Early care and education programs licensed by the State of Alaska or Municipality of Anchorage who are not currently participating in Learn & Grow are eligible to apply.
  • All participants in Quality Initiatives are required to be an active member of the Alaska System for Early Education Development (SEED) Registry.
  • Preference is given to programs that are not currently participating in other funding projects with thread.
