Shop and support thread in advancing the quality of early care and education for our children.
Today thread joins the U.S. Dept. of Education for Read Where You Are Day of Action. Take time out today to read to a child, and then share your photos on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #readwhereyouare.
Reading can happen wherever you are, and it's never too early to start. Begin reading to your child starting at birth. Sharing a book with your child helps build vocabulary and develop the important literacy, language, and listening skills he or she will need to succeed in school and in life.
Research shows that children from low-income families will hear 30 million fewer words by age three than children from wealthier families. And by 8th grade, lost learning time over the summer months accounts for 2/3 of the achievement gap between low-income children and their more affluent peers. So help ensure a bright future for a child and take time to read where you are.
