The National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) has partnered with the United States Air Force (USAF) to launch a new program that will provide respite care to Air Force families with children with special needs.  USAF EFMP Respite Care serves eligible Air Force families based in and around Anchorage and Eagle River.  thread, Alaska’s Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) agency will administer the program locally.

"We are so pleased to offer this much needed program to local Air Force families with children with special needs," said Stephanie Berglund, thread’s CEO.  "USAF EFMP Respite Care will provide families a well-deserved break, knowing that their child is being cared for by trained and screened providers."

Through this Air Force-funded program, eligible Air Force families may receive up to 20 hours of respite care per month at no cost to the family.  Respite care services in the Anchorage area will be provided by qualified providers who are recruited, screened and trained in caring for children with special needs by threadthread has been promoting quality child care and early learning in Alaska for over twenty-five years and offers credit-based training to early childhood professionals. thread also serves over 7,000 families annually with child care referrals and resources for parents.

USAF EFMP Respite Care is available to those families stationed at the following locations: Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER).

To be eligible for USAF EFMP Respite Care, Air Force families must be enrolled in the Air Force Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and have a child up to 18 years of age identified under the EFMP as "moderate" or "severe".
